JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Board of Directors of the Master Chorale of South Florida, the services of the Artistic Director are required to prepare and conduct this critically acclaimed, primarily volunteer 125-member chorus for a minimum of three engagements per season. The season is defined as annually commencing in August, typically ending the following May with at least one Summer Sing rehearsal. Each engagement consists of three performances at selected locations in Tri-County area (Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach) locations.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Program and execute musical performances of major classical choral works with orchestra
  • Conduct scheduled chorus rehearsals each Monday evening in season, 7:30 -10 pm
  • Conduct all scheduled performances
  • Audition existing and potential chorus members
  • Audition and contract soloists, orchestral musicians and accompanists
  • Plan budget and perform due diligence toward fiscal responsibility
  • Develop relationships with potential influencers and donors in the Tri-County arts community capable of providing financial and other types of support to MCSF

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Doctorate preferred; Master's degree required
  • High-level training in choral conducting and extensive knowledge of wide variety of classical music repertoire
  • Expertise in vocal technique, languages and choral diction

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 7 years high-caliber choral/orchestral conducting experience and artistic oversight
  • Proven ability to attract, lead, inspire and retain top musical talent
  • Established reputation for excellence in artistic achievement
  • Demonstrated ability to add to and build on the organization’s high-quality reputation
  • Reputation for leading and inspiring musicians to excellence in a spirit of mutual respect and fun
  • Ability to vigorously and motivationally represent the organization to the at-large community
  • Experience in selecting high-level concert repertoire and outstanding soloists for an adult chorus
  • Ability to artistically interpret and annotate master scores for chorus, accompanists, instrumentalists and soloists

AVAILABILITY

  • Position commences in August 2008 with preparation for the 2008-09 Season

JOB LOCATION AND SALARY

  • This part-time position requires approximately 10 - 15 hours per week; 20 – 25 hours during 3 concert weeks
    Salary commensurate with experience and services rendered
  • Position headquartered in Ft. Lauderdale, FL
