Master Chorale of South Florida announces a
"Season of Celebrations"

The Master Chorale of South Florida will open its third season of performing choral-orchestral concerts of the highest level on Veterans’ Day with a series of performances dedicated to veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.

For this occasion, the Master Chorale will sing Ralph Vaughn Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem, accompanied by 56 musicians from the Boca Raton Philharmonic Symphonia and soprano and baritone soloists. Written in 1936, Dona Nobis Pacem is a musical setting of three Walt Whitman poems, “Beat! Beat! Drums!,” “Reconciliation” and “Dirge for Two Veterans,” combined with multiple Biblical passages addressing war. The texts were carefully chosen by Vaughn Williams and passionately scored to emphasize the universal heartbreak of war offset by the hope for peace on earth.

The concert will open with Aaron Copeland’s beloved Fanfare for the Common Man and Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings. Adagio became indelibly linked with war when it was chosen to set the mood for the opening scenes of the Vietnam War movie, Platoon.

“It is our intent to honor our veterans and to celebrate their selfless contributions to establishing peace in the world,” said the Master Chorale’s Artistic Director and Conductor Jo-Michael Scheibe, DMA.

“In Celebration of Veterans” will be performed on Friday, November 11, 2005, at 8:00 pm in Boca Raton (location TBA); on Saturday, November 12, 2005, at 8:00 pm at Second Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale; and on Sunday, November 13, 2005, at 3:00 pm at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Miami.

The second half of the Master Chorale’s “Season of Celebrations,” Spring 2006, celebrates Mozart’s 250th birthday with a concert series featuring his Mass in C Minor (K. 427), accompanied by the Boca Raton Philharmonic Symphonia and four soloists. The mass, which was left unfinished at the composer’s death, has been reconstructed and completed from new material found by Mozart scholars. The Master Chorale will perform this new edition released in the summer of 2005 by publisher Carus-Verlag.

“In Celebration of Mozart: Mass in C Minor” will be performed on Friday, March 31, 2006, at 8:00 pm in Boca Raton (location TBA); on Saturday, April 1, 2006, at 8:00 pm at Second Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale; and on Sunday, April 2, 2006, at 3:00 pm at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Miami.

Tickets are $25 in advance ($30 at the door) and may be ordered through www.masterchoraleofsouthflorida.org, or by calling the Master Chorale offices at 954-418-6232. All major credit cards are accepted.

The Master Chorale of South Florida is an auditioned group of semi-professional singers dedicated to performing major pieces from the choral-orchestral repertoire with a quality unequaled in South Florida. Auditions for qualified singers to participate in the 2005-2006 “Season of Celebrations” will be held from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm on Saturday, August 27, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church of Pompano Beach.
